3. Details of Submission
I (We), make the following submission:
It should be the developers’ responsibility to ensure there is no adverse impact on traffic flow into the future.
The traffic impact assessment commissioned by the developer does not consider the effect of increased
pedestrian crossings on the movement of vehicle traffic.
Since IGA opened, traffic on David Low Way often slows when cars stop for people using the pedestrian
crossing. On occasion traffic is banked up through the roundabout to the North. The new development will
increase the number of pedestrians moving from the accommodation to the village and beach (there is no pool
so guests will have little reason to stay in the accommodation grounds during the day). Traffic will deteriorate
further and impact the village atmosphere. I propose that the pedestrian crossing should be moved to a
suitable location to the North (to retain level access for those who need it) and the developer construct a
pedestrian overpass. The overpass should be designed to be attractive and in keeping with the coastal
location, utilising plants and timber, and could include viewing platforms for hinterland and possible
ocean/whale watching views. It should be designed in consultation with the community and be an attractive
feature in itself.
(if necessary, use separate sheet of paper and attach)
