RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Manager Waste and Environmental Health to the Services &
Organisation Committee Meeting dated 12 September 2017 and
A. Include the Lake Cooroibah urban area, as defined in Attachment 1 to the report, as an
area where Council will provide a garden waste recycling bin to residents, serviced
fortnightly; and
B. Advise owners of the proposed service and invite exemptions from service in accordance
with the current garden waste service policy, prior to delivery of bins and commencement
of service.
REPORT
1. Background
Council has agreed to implement a garden waste recycling service from 1 September 2017 to all
urban township areas excluding Kin Kin. The service areas are defined in 10 maps which outline
the boundary of the service areas. Premises within 5 kilometres of those areas are entitled to
request an optional garden waste service.
2. Current Services in Lake Cooroibah
The Lake Cooroibah locality includes an urban development that was not included in the current
defined garden waste service area.
Residents are encouraged to place garden waste into the red lidded general waste bin, instead of
transporting garden waste to a processing facility.
The locality:
is a significant distance from any approved green waste processing facility and most
properties contain heavy vegetation;
is an “optional garden service area” but only 22 of the 112 premises have taken up the
optional service;
can be provided with a garden waste service to all premises as Cleanaway currently
service about 20% of the premises.
