Financial Distress
The financial distress measure was calculated based on the response to the question ‘In the last year, did any of the
following happen to you because you didn’t have enough money?’: (i) Had to delay or cancel non-essential purchases
e.g holiday, going to a restaurant or movie, buying clothes; (ii) Could not pay bills on time e.g. electricity, rent, gas; (iii)
Went without meals, or was unable to heat or cool home; (iv) Asked for financial help from friends or family; or (v)
None of these.
