Equity and Inclusion
Equity and inclusion is measured by asking survey participants how much they agreed with the following three
statements, from 'strongly disagree’ (1) to 'strongly agree’ (7): (i) Some groups in this community keep to
themselves; (ii) Some groups who live in this community aren’t made to feel welcome; and (iii) There is a lot of
disagreement between people in this community. Responses to these statements were averaged to form a single
measure of equity and inclusion by (i) reversing the scoring of each, so that low scores indicated poor equity and low
inclusion, and high scores indicated high levels of equity and inclusion; and (ii) calculating the average score across
the three variables.
