2         Fixed Deployment Measurements
2.1       Frames of Reference
Units are expressed using the SI (Système International d'unités) convention unless otherwise stated.

Wind and wave direction are expressed as ‘FROM’ the direction of approach and in nautical degrees
(degrees relative to true north, positive clockwise).

Current direction is expressed as ‘TO’ the direction of flow and in nautical degrees (degrees relative to true
north, positive clockwise).

2.2       Deployment Period Characteristics
2.2.1     Regional Wind
Double Island Point Lighthouse weather station (040068, operated by the Bureau of Meteorology) wind
roses for the deployment period (10/03/2019 to 30/04/2019) and the long-term average (01/01/1996 to
30/04/2019) are compared in Figure 2-1. The deployment period regional wind characteristics include:

• A predominance of S to SE trade winds;

• A directional spread of winds that is relatively consistent with the long-term average, noting a slightly
  higher proportion of NNE and SSE winds;

• A lower proportion of 10-minute wind speed exceeding 20 m/s (approximately 39 knots) compared to
  the long-term average; and

• A higher proportion of 10-minute wind speeds between 10 and 15 m/s (approximately 20 to 30 knots)
    compared to the long-term average.

                                    period (left) and long-term average (right)
