REPRESENTATIONS TO DECISION NOTICE FOR MCU16/0036 MATERIAL CHANGE OF USE APPLICATION FOR 52 GEVERS ROAD, BLACK MOUNTAIN. IAN & LINDA MCGILLIVRAY. Following the meeting between myself and Kerry Coyle on 31/5/16 I would like to make the following points in regard to the above application: The relatives dwelling has always been intended for my 27 year old son who has had a drug and alcohol problem since his teens. It is intended to be a place for him to be able to heal and get his life back on track which he is very keen to do. We want to be able to give him some independence so do not want this dwelling to be right next to the main house. The lifestyle of a 27 year old and a couple in their 50’s is very different! There is a location closer to the house that could be utilised if we were not concerned about the above point but would require far more earthworks to create driveway access and 2 cuts for parking and access to the dwelling. There is an existing drive to the proposed site that would only require one minor cut to allow for parking underneath. It also allows access to the entrance ramp without having to climb stairs. We have witnessed two major earth slips onto our property from neighboring properties since living here due to clearing and earthworks in the past. This whole area is slip country so for this reason we want to minimise the amount of earthworks carried out as much as possible. We do not wish to fell any of the large Eucalyptus trees just to make way for housing. They provide valuable habitat for the abundant birdlife on the property and are an important part of the local ecosystem. This building has never been intended for private rental. It is purely for family. We designed it to be disabled accessible as there is a chance in the future that my 82 year old mother will need accommodation in her later years. The building has also been sited to take advantage of the views which she has often stated remind her of our original family home in Canberra which looked over the Brindabella Ranges. I trust the above points will be taken into account when making a reviewing the decision on the above application. If you require any further information I would be happy to discuss this at your convenience.
