Features were identified and imported into a Differential GPS unit to ensure efficient data capture. Field
maps were created to assist with general overviews whilst in the field. An iPhone application called solocator
was used to quickly and efficiently capture approximate locations of existing signage along priority roads.

Maya, the koala scat detection dog, surveyed selected sites for the presence of koala scats following the
University of the Sunshine Coast scat detection dog protocols.

2.3.1. Field Survey Constraints
The rapid field assessment allowed a short period to be spent at each of the sites. Notes, measurements and
photos were taken to assist pre-defined electronic data capture fields. Accessibility was limited in areas such
as high speed roads where there was no safe area to stop a vehicle.

The use of the koala scat detection dog indicated where scats were present at selected surveyed sites at the
time of survey. The absence of scats at any field site does not necessarily indicate an absence of koalas in
that area. The data collected does not indicate koala home ranges, population or movements.

2.3.2. Coordinate System and Map Datum
Positional data was captured using a differential GPS (Magellan mobilemapper) with 1-2 m accuracy and data
entry through dropdown menus created specifically for the field survey. Information presented uses the
MGA94 datum in zone 56.
