• Leslie Drive (climbing poles)
General Condition
All existing climbing structures are in moderate condition.
Recommendations
Continue to ensure climbing structures are in functional condition.
4.1.3. Koala and Wildlife Signage
Existing koala and wildlife signage (Figure 11) include a range of sign designs (Plate 4), including:
• Koala symbol (several types)
• ‘We live here too’ (koala and kangaroo symbol)
• Koalas next X metres
• Wildlife next X metres
• Give way to wildlife
A koala or wildlife rescue number is attached below some signs, providing contact details for Queensland
Koala Rescue or Wilvos.
General Condition
Most signage is in good condition. Defects include:
• signs obstructed by vegetation
• signs alert traffic travelling in only one direction and are not in an ideal position
• some sign designs are difficult to read or recognise and do not give motorists a quick and clear
understanding of the purpose of the sign
• some signs do not have a koala/wildlife rescue contact number attached
Recommendations
Recommendations include:
• ensure signage is visible to motorists and is appropriately placed to provide motorists with warning, trim
vegetation and/or relocate signs where necessary
• consider using a sign design, or range of designs for different applications, that provide motorists with a
quick and clear understanding of the purpose of the sign
o appropriate sized for hazard and speed zone
o high visibility
o signs that can be activated during times of peak koala activity e.g. vehicle activated signs
o the new upgrades to school zones signage, including high visibility and vehicle activated signs,
could be applied to koala crossing zones
4.1.4. Lighting
Most street lighting is provided along roads within built-up areas, particularly at intersections and
roundabouts. Rural roads have limited lighting.
Recommendations
Additional lighting may be beneficial at extreme pinch point crossings or unfenced areas where multiple hits
have been recorded.
