3.6 Emergency Response Strategies

3.6.1 Overview
Rainfall forecasts as listed in Section 2 are available up to 5 days in advance, with increasing certainty as the
prediction timeframe becomes shorter.

Triggers for an Emergency Response may then be based on the following strategy:
◼ 5 Day forecast for upcoming severe weather event (i.e. heavy rainfall and/or storm event as predicted by
the Bureau of Meteorology or third party provider)
◼ Residents to be alert of potential upcoming flood risk
◼ Prepare to shelter in place or self-evacuate as detailed in section 3.6.2 and 3.6.3.
◼ Continue to monitor forecasts and warnings
◼ 3 Day forecast for upcoming severe weather event, potentially greater than 400mm rainfall
◼ Residents to be alert of potential upcoming flood risk and emergency response procedures. Suggest
early self-evacuation for those with specific medical attention requirements.
◼ 1 Day forecast – rainfall totals in excess of 300mm forecast for next 24 hours
      ◼ Commence Emergency Response Strategy
◼ Residents to shelter-in-place at floor levels at or above the PMF level; OR
◼ Residents to self-evacuate as per section 3.6.2

3.6.2 Shelter In Place
The primary emergency response strategy for the site is Shelter In Place.
◼ Once the site flood level gauge reaches a level of 1.3mAHD the siren is triggered and it is preferred that
      residents shelter in place.
◼ Detailed Emergency Response Actions are provided in Appendix B.
◼ Once the site flood level gauge reaches a level of 1.5m AHD Must self-evacuate before a flood event, a
flood height siren will be triggered before the evacuation route is inundated:
◼ When the site flood height gauge reaches a level of 1.3mAHD (between a 1 in 20yr and 1in 50yr flood
event) a flood height siren will be triggered.
◼ Residents must self-evacuate property BEFORE Lake Weyba Drive is covered by flood water. If there
is water over road – cease evacuation and shelter in place.
◼ Detailed Emergency Response Actions are provided in Appendix B.
