Ashley and Caroline Hermes 7.5 Drainage Site drainage should be designed to readily remove surface water, minimise water infiltration into the slope, and to prevent ponding of water on subgrade areas during construction and also adjacent to foundations, perimeter slabs, and driveways once construction is completed. Roof water, including overflow from rainwater tanks, and water collected from hard surfaces (e.g. driveways) must be directed by pipes or lined channels to an engineer-designed point of discharge. Shallow subsurface cut-off drains should be installed upslope of building areas in order to intercept and divert potential subsurface seepage. Diversion drains (mounds) should be constructed above the crest of any cut or fill embankments. Implementation and maintenance of appropriate site drainage will be important to manage the risk of slope instability at this site. 7.6 General Foundation Maintenance The CSIRO document Foundation maintenance and footing performance: A Homeowner’s Guide (2003) is attached in Appendix D for your information. This advice should be considered in the construction and maintenance of the proposed development. 8.0 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS From a geotechnical viewpoint, the site is suitable for the proposed development subject to the implementation of the recommendations in this report. 9.0 LIMITATIONS Your attention is drawn to the document, Limitations which is attached in Appendix E.
