Slope Stability Report

Text Figure 10: Eastern view across proposed shed site from Old Ceylon Road
2.3 Groundwater
No seepage or ‘springs’ were observed in the vicinity of the proposed shed site.
2.4 Surface Drainage
Natural surface drainage from the shed site follows surface contours towards the south-east. The natural
slopes appeared to be relatively well drained at the time of the walk-over. Surface water is expected to
drain rapidly from the natural slopes considering the moderate to steep gradients, relatively low permeability
clay soils and shallow depth to rock.
At the time of our visit, the previously formed building pad graded slightly to the east allowing surface runoff
to overtop fill batter crest causing surface erosion and scouring. It appeared that a diversion swale had
been installed above the northern end of the cut batter channelling runoff north away from the proposed
shed site. A small swale drain had been cut on the upslope side of the downslope access track sending
runoff in a southerly direction.
2.5 Vegetation
At the time of the inspection, the proposed development area was sporadically grassed. Dense high grass
and shrub vegetation several large mature trees was otherwise observed around the shed site. Most of the
trees appeared to be relatively straight, with no obvious signs of distorted growth which could be attributed
to slope instability.
2.6 Buildings and Other Structures
At the time of the assessment no structures were observed in vicinity of the proposed shed site other than
two shipping containers located at the southern end of the building pad.
