3.2 Stormwater Pit Cover Removal
There are several different types of stormwater pit covers used throughout Australia.
These grates/lids are constructed of three main materials, cast iron, galvanised steel and
concrete. Stormwater pits covers will either be hinged (lockable) or simply placed on a
recessed frame, with cover which are not hinged are typically heavy, to prevent the grate
being easily knocked open by passing traffic. Each different pit cover requires different
techniques to safely remove the cover to gain access to the Enviropod Unit.
