Dear Mr Murphy
We make the following submission in opposition to Development Application MCU 16/0153 & REC 16/0041
Our submission is based on the following:
Lack of car parking
Noise and safety
Environmental impact
Lack of car parking
The submission does not take into consideration the issues already facing the residential and business community, most
specifically the issue of parking. With the recent increase in residences, there is not enough car paces available in the area.
As it is, retailers and local residents park in all of the unlimited car parking spaces available to the detriment of the businesses
closest to these spaces. Illegal parking is on the increase as people try to park in unsafe and unsanctioned places.
During the school term, the precinct from the Village to the Peregian Beach Hotel, Peregian Beach Kindergarten, Medical offices
and Peregian Beach Community House has a severe lack of parking with café guests, retailers, bus stops (all with people leaving
their cars for the day) impacting on business. During school holidays, this is impacted further with visitors to the area.
As it currently stands, parking is an issue.
The proposed parking space numbers on the application are insufficient for both residents and their visitors and will impact on
our already congested area.
Noise and Safety
The frequency with which heavy duty earth moving equipment and trucks will be required to pass PBCH is detrimental to the
ongoing classes held here for the community, most of which will be impacted by the noise, resulting in loss of business for hirers
taking the classes and therefore loss of business for PBCH. With many locals using the few car spaces available and/or walking to
PBCH for their classes, many with very young children or the elderly, this poses a very strong case with regards to safety.
Access to the proposed development will create additional congestion in Sandpiper Lane, a tight access point as it is.
Environment
Peregian Beach Community House is an Environmental building, something of which the committee, the users and the residents
are proud of. The extent to which the environment was considered during the building phase and with regards to the buildings
amenities and impact on the natural environment at all times is important to the community. Redirecting a creek, land fill and
building right up to the natural park, increased traffic, lack of parking and additional building does not conform to the
community vision, nor does it protect the natural environment or consider the local residents or businesses. Where is the green
space?
Sincerely
Mary-Jane Crawford
Secretary
Committee of Management
