To whom it may concern; Re Application: MCU21/0154, Home based business (small scale meat Processing) 82 Patterson drive Tinbeerwah We are submitting this letter in opposition to the above proposal in our neighbourhood. We reside at 87 Patterson drive, with the front of our property approx. 20mt from their driveway. We are very concerned that this endeavour has been allowed to proceed to the stage where they are asking forgiveness rather than permission to start up a business that is totally unsuitable for a residential area. It appears that this business has already been running as they have been running refrigeration units and there has been a large increase in traffic in and out and parked outside on the nature strip outside other neighbouring properties. This business is not compatible with the area and has and will continue to impact on the rural residential character and amenity of the community. This community is one where families, couples, elderly, young and old enjoy the outdoors the wild life, nature and the peacefulness of the rural residential setting. We believe the business to be beneficial to the shire in that it is removing a pest, however it should be located in a suitable area within the shire that is an Industrial/business or agricultural area away from residential properties. We have already become aware of more trucks entering and leaving the property including insulated trucks, waste (septic) removal, delivery truck and vans. For the owners to say that no ‘refrigerated’ trucks will be in and out is misleading as these other trucks/vans are coming in an out and will continue to do so on a more frequent basis as the business grows. We are very concerned about the waste management of the facility, and although the owner stated there will be minimal waste we have spoken to someone with over 40yrs in the meat processing business and they have firmly stated that we will be affected by the odours, cleaning chemicals and the vermin/ flies that will come from having a meat processing plant this close to homes and also it being so close to the Noosa water catchment of Lake McDonald. The owners are also misleading us when they say that this is not the case as they have been visually seen to be washing copious amounts of blood from their own driveway into the garden. How will this not affect those living close by? It was a highly unwelcome and scary sight to a couple of young children who happened to be visiting at the time. Where and how will the business owners be washing their carcass transport vehicle? Is that to be hosed off in the back yard? Or is it travelling around the neighbourhood to the car wash to have it washed down their drains? What facilities are set up to contain any odours and or animal bits that may be lingering around the vehicle. If the owners are not using a refrigerated truck to move their product as they say it means that others are coming directly to them to collect the product thus more traffic in and out of a driveway which is very close to a crest of a hill and not great visibility for traffic going up and down the road and for the young nearby children playing. Packaging materials will be dropped off cleaning products will be dropped off. There are lots of deliveries to small businesses. The owners have said they have not removed Koala habitat trees however some very large trees were removed from the property within the last two years and whether that was to extend the shed or to put something else on the property I am unaware of any permit to do so. I do not believe the odours of deceased animals being brought in at night which is when the owners have said they will transport which is also when a lot of our native wildlife is on the move will be conducive to our local native populations, but it may bring in wild dogs, feral cats, rats, mice etc. which will also damage the native birds and wildlife which is what has attracted many of the residents of area to move here. Not only will these unwanted extras affect wildlife but also the houses/gardens/pets of those living in the immediate area. In regards to the transporting of slaughtered animals on an open vehicle in a residential area it is totally offensive. There are plenty of people in the area that may be up very early, exercising, walking and trying to catch glimpses of sunrises to be confronted by the sight of a carcass strapped to the back of a vehicle is not acceptable. This business will only expand and what does that mean for the local residents? This area we live in has been known as the Golden Triangle, a prestigious area known for its beauty, for the nature, for the generous properties located in its area, a meat processing plant is not an addition that will add to the amenity, in fact it will impact greatly on the monetary value and saleability of the neighbouring residences. It is terribly unfortunate that the owners of 82 Patterson Drive have gone ahead to set up a facility at a great expense to them, whilst it is a very unfortunate fact that they have set up the facility without any consultation with any of their neighbours especially those immediately adjacent when they have had ample opportunity. It is quite deceitful and disrespectful to set this up and then expect the neighbours to be happy with it. 82 Patterson Drive Tinbeerwah is not the right site for a meat processing business; it is not compatible with the Noosa Plan 2020, which says that the non-residential activities need to be compatible with and to not impact on the rural residential character and amenity of the zone. Please take careful consideration and listen to the wishes of our community and ask that they relocate this set up to a more amenable area where such a business is welcome and not loathed. Regards Julie Hughson and Alister Moore
