ANNEXURE C ‐ Supplementary Ecological Survey Summary
Date: 12 October 2017
Duration: 3:00 pm to 7:15pm – 4.25 hrs
Weather: Overcast 8/8ths cloud cover. Wind above 15 knots from the NE. Occasional light drizzle.
Survey Team: Mr David Wassman (Senior Ecologist)
Methods:
Survey effort was targeted towards detection of flora and fauna species of formal
conservation significance previously recorded in the Site locality as detailed in Appendix B ‐
Significant Wildlife Species Likelihood of Occurrence Assessment of the Ecological Assessment
Report (Cardno, 8 August 2017) submitted in support of Application.
Surveys involved educated traverses of the Site focussed around existing habitable structures,
within the riparian zone and along the banks of Burgess Creek and amongst the dense ground‐
layer, particularly when in close proximity to shrubs and trees.
Where available logs, litter and similar features were turned or otherwise disturbed in an
attempt to flush out fauna. Decorticating bark was also removed from some vegetation,
particularly dead Casuarina equisetifolia and Banksia integrifolia with a particular focus on
geckos and other arboreal reptiles.
Call playback to assist with detection of the following fauna species:
‐ Acid frogs; an
‐ Ground parrot.
Spotlight transects were run generally landward to seaward with additional transects along
the banks of Burgess Creek.
Field surveys were completed in accordance with our existing permits:
> Scientific Purposes Permit WISP12206812; and
> Animal Ethics Approval CA 2015/10/906.
Results:
No flora species of formal conservation significance were recorded within or adjacent to the
Site.
The following additional fauna species were observed within the Site and adjoining coastal
reserves:
- Rainbow Bee‐eater (Merops ornatus)
- White‐cheeked Honeyeater (Phylidonyris niger)
- Black‐faced Cuckoo‐shrike (Coracina novaehollandiae)
