Bushfire Management Plan
Lot 71 on MCH 2854, Castaways Beach
the active management of existing weed infestations within those parts of the Site where
existing vegetation will be retained and enhanced for conservation purposes.
It is also noted that the vegetation within the adjoining sectors of Council managed coastal reserve supports a
highly level of weed infestation. In additional to the widely recognised adverse ecological effects of weeds,
the high biomass of weed species can create unnaturally high fuel loads. This in turn has the potential for
weed infested vegetation to carry higher intensity fires with an associated increased potential for adverse
impacts to the ecological values of the area and increased risks to adjacent residents. In that respect it is
recommended that Council give consideration to the direction of resources towards the management of
existing weed infestations within the adjoining reserve, which is classified in the Noosa Plan as being an area
of high ecological value.
