MCU15/0029 PM Submission – Object - Linda Staley
Subject: Attention Planning and Development.Regarding MCU 15/0029 submission From: Linda Staley Date: 2015-06-02T02:25:58+00:00 To: Mailbox Council Mail To whom it may concern , Regarding the submission MCU 15/0029 Our first objection is concerning the trading hours 6am to 10pm most days and 6am to 12pm weekends. As the application states that this is a restaurant/ cafe, we see these hours more inline with a possible bar. We for see, if this is so, then problems arising, especially being in close proximity to our business Dolphins Beach House/backpackers. We have run this business for 16 years, and have put strict curfews on drinking (no alcohol consumption after 7pm) and have chosen not to sell alcohol from the property. The reason for this is out of respect and consideration tor the residents in our area. We feel having a potential bar in close proximity to the backpackers would cause excessive noise and other problems in the neighbourhood. I would like to state also that in the past we have had problems with patronage from other bars in the local area entering the backpackers, and causing problems due to being under the influence of alcohol. My concern as well, is that they are suggesting they will have a patronage of 24 people. The size of the building would leave me to believe that most of the time the patronage would be outside. This also presents a problem to us with noise. Our home and bedroom is 30 metres from the building and the noise funnels directly into our property. In the past when events have been run from this property, there has been 60 plus patronage on the property, Noise at this time was excessive. In conjunction with this, the parking of cars in Douglas street, on our side and their side of the street caused problems, (parking over yellow lines) I see car parking being an issue also as there are already at least 6 to 8 tenants with cars from this building. We are all for healthy enterprise, and have no problems with the property running a business as a cafe/ restaurant (not a bar) at reasonable hours that would not cause undue stress and noise to the local neighbourhood. i would also like to add that if this proposal goes ahead and it is licensed to sell alcohol we would see the need for strict noise control and noise buffers between properties/ security and courtesy buses being provided and a reduction in trading hours . Kind regards Linda Staley owner of dolphins Beach House 14- 16 Duke Street
