Cooroy
The Cooroy Township is estimated to contain approximately 117 shop fronts in the main
town centre area. An inspection in February 2014 recorded a total of 73 street front retail
shops and services trading in the town centre area and 39 commercial and professional
service tenancies.
The 2,500m2 Supa IGA is the only supermarket in Cooroy.
Discussions with local agents and online research conducted via realcommercial.com.au
have revealed that the retail environment in Cooroy is thriving and retail property is tightly
held.
There is a relative dearth of fast-food take-away dining options in Cooroy with only two
national chains present in the market, Subway and Eagle Boys. The nearest Red Rooster,
McDonalds and KFC are located 17 kilometres or more from Cooroy, which equates to a
minimum of 34 kilometre round trip.
Pomona
Pomona is located approximately 13 kilometres to the north of Cooroy. It is a small rural
township comprised of 33 retail and commercial shop fronts. The Supa IGA is the only
supermarket in Pomona and is estimated at around 1,500m2.
Eumundi
Eumundi is a small township located approximately 10 kilometres south of Cooroy. It is
located just off the Bruce Highway at the main Noosa exit. The town is home to the
popular bi-weekly local artisan market, the Original Eumundi Market, and a number of the
town’s retail businesses operate only on market days (Wednesday and Saturday).
Yandina
Yandina is a Sunshine Coast hinterland town just off the Bruce Highway located
approximately 20 kilometres to the south of Cooroy. The IGA is the main food store and is
located in Yandina Shopping Centre, a new neighbourhood centre development
comprised of eight tenancies (three vacant) on the corner of Farrel and Flemming Streets,
Yandina, on the periphery of the town centre area. The town centre has 60 retail and
commercial shop fronts.
2.2.1 Network Performance
Our inspection of the Cooroy Town Centre area revealed five vacant shop fronts (450m2).
Two vacancies of approximately 181m2 were identified in the Wattle Street Complex and
the remaining three vacant tenancies were located in the town centre precinct.
Table 2.3 shows the retail tenancy mix by general category for the Cooroy town centre
area.
