MCU14/0106 Submission PM Object - Cheri Bloxsome
Subject: Noosa Civic Expansion From: Cheri Bloxsome Date: 2015-07-26T00:08:58+00:00 To: Mailbox Council Mail I wish to register my objection to the proposed Noosa Civic Expansion. I have been a Noosa Resident of 28 years, for ten of which I was a business owner in Noosa Junction. I fully understand the concern of current business owners in Noosa Heads, Noosa Junction, Noosaville and Tewantin, where there are already many empty business premises. These owners believe, and I do also, that there will be many more struggling businesses which will be unable to survive if the Noosa Civic expansion is allowed to go ahead in the near future. The extra jobs that the building of this large project will provide will be short-lived, and the extra jobs created by businesses opening in the new development will be offset by job losses in pre-existing businesses in other local areas. It’s a very bad look for our beautiful town to have so many empty shops …. it smacks of problems, not progress. Most of the residents I have spoken to on the topic of the Noosa Civic expansion say that we just don’t need it … or want it. Most of us chose a place to live and work in that was quieter and less developed than other places we could have chosen to move to. If we had wanted facilities like Maroochydore’s Sunshine Plaza, we would have moved to Maroochydore. If the current empty shops around our town had tenants, there would be very little that we need to travel to Maroochydore or elsewhere to buy….. it would all be here…..but people are anxious to take up space and start up businesses with the possibility of further large competitive development happening. I believe strongly that we need to upgrade and strengthen the shopping areas we already have before building more and having even more empty shops. Yours sincerely, Cheri Bloxsome
