                              Population

                              The catchment had an estimated resident population of 95,331 in June 2022 which is the
                              latest official data available, having grown at a rate of 1.3% per annum over the three
                              years since 2019 (or adding 1,216 persons per year on average). Prior to 2019, the
                              catchment area experienced more rapid population growth, with a 2.3% increase per
                              annum between 2016 to 2019, or more than an additional 2,000 residents per year.

                              Within the catchment, growth has historically been focussed in the Secondary South East
                              sector where some broadhectare development opportunities remain around Peregian
                              Springs. In the Primary and Secondary East sectors, growth occurs as infill development
                              and is therefore more limited.

                              Population growth within South East Queensland was generally less affected by the
                              COVID-19 pandemic than other states, due mainly to interstate migration gains while
                              being less impacted by reductions in net overseas migration. Some population loss
                              occurred within the Primary and Secondary East sectors.
                              In the current recovery phase, a small ‘bounce-back’ is predicted in 2023-2025, after
                              which population trends are expected to revert to underlying growth trends which are
                              projected to be moderate when compared to figures prior to 2019. In June 2023 the
                              catchment population is estimated to be 96,875 and is forecast to increase to 102,470 in
                              2027, and then to continue to increase to 104,615 in 2030 and 107,510 in 2035. These
                              figures are based on dwelling approval trends and official projections released by the
                              Queensland Government Statistician’s Office (QGSO) in 2023.
