PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 AUGUST 2018
Noosa Shire is aging and Table 1 shows how the proportion of age groups have changed over
the 25 years between 1991 and 2016. There has been a significant proportional decrease in
young children (up to 10 years of age) and in younger adults of 20 to 39 years which generally
covers the age groups having children. Every age group over 50 has noticeably increased.

Graphically, the figures below (figures 3,4 and 5) show the age sex “pyramids” for Noosa Shire
compared to the State of Queensland for the years 2001, 2016 and projected for the year 2036.
By 2001 there is already noticeable difference, particularly in the under-representation of age
groups between 15 and 34 years. However the distinct over-representation of all ages above 50
years became more profound by 2016 and by 2036 it is suggested the shape will bare no
resemblance to a pyramid at all with ages 20 to 40 years being extremely under-represented and
all ages over 55 extremely over-represented.
