QUEENSLAND OVERVIEW
SUMMARY OF STATISTICAL INDICATORS
OVERVIEW
Queensland’s strong economic growth continued into the March Quarter 2004 and final demand expanded
by 10.0% in annual terms, outpacing Australian final demand growth of 5.6%. Private consumption was the
major contributor to growth over the quarter, with strong growth recorded in both new motor vehicle sales
and retail trade. Business investment also contributed strongly to GSP growth in Queensland, as evidenced
by the expansion in the number of non-residential building approvals. Net exports had a significant
negative impact on GSP growth, with a decline in export levels and strong growth in imports over the year.
