Noosaville Foreshore Management Plan
Background
The Noosa River Foreshore is one of the most valued natural assets in Noosa Shire. The
parklands along Gympie Terrace are loved by locals and visitors alike but could suffer from the
pressures of increased visitation and use if not managed well.
Noosa Council has appointed consultants Place Design Group to prepare a Noosaville
Foreshore Land Use Master Plan. The aim of the Plan will be to protect the integrity of the
foreshore by carefully considering the balance between recreational use and commercial
activities, events, markets and the like.
Council’s vision for the foreshore is its natural beauty is retained and use of the area ensures
it can be enjoyed by future generations.*
Thank you for taking the time to consider the unique circumstances that presently exists at the
Noosa Waterfront Restaurant at 142 Gympie Terrace Noosaville. Our submission is one that is
personalised to our specific issue but we have considered the broader context within which the use
of public land may be considered and the opportunities that may exist for a long term tenure
solution.
Submission
Our Submission proposes that a solution be agreed upon by all stakeholders regarding being able
to gain a lawful permit / ownership / lease / ongoing tenure to use a small portion of parkland
(Appendix 1) that fronts the Noosa Waterfront Restaurant for primarily weddings (refer Figure 1
and 2 below). We are seeking this solution as a long term solution to be able to provide an ongoing
strong commitment to economic growth within the Wedding Market for the Noosa Region.
Economic Modelling undertaken estimates a conservative direct impact to the Noosa Community
of $68,283 for each wedding that is able to be held at the Noosa Waterfront Restaurant. Our own
data and industry knowledge also is able to provide the analysis that without the opportunity for
use of this land up to 36% of weddings wishing to use the Noosa Waterfront will either seek
locations external to the Noosa Shire. This is modelled at a$10mil loss to the Noosa economy.
Weare able to confidently predict this through the lack of forward bookings on a yearly comparison
since the issue of tenure has become one of public discussion.
