Ecological Assessment Report v1 NCES REF: J001061
Lot 7 on RP216403, Lot 394 on M371117, and Lot 650 on M37380 – 48-59 Kabi Road, Cootharaba
understorey (mown lawn) (refer green shading VC01). Plate 13 depicts typical vegetation within
VC1c.
Plate 13 – VC1c – Native and exotic planted rainforest
4.3.2 Vegetation Community 2 – Open Eucalypt Forest with rainforest understorey
VC2 is present in large patches about the vegetated perimeter of the site to the south and east and
is characterised by tall wet eucalypt open forest. VC1 exhibits an average canopy height of 20->30m.
The canopy exhibited a T1 and T2 canopy layer. The T1 canopy layer included Eucalyptus grandis
(flooded gum), Eucalyptus microcorys (tallow wood), Eucalyptus tereticornis (Queensland blue
gum), and Lophostemon confertus (brushbox). The T2 canopy layer was dominated by mixed
Melaleuca spp. but was dominated by Melaleuca quinquenervia (broad-leaved paperbark).
The mid-storey was characterised by mixed Acacia spp. and Glochidion sumatranum (cheese tree)
while the understorey contained Cordyline rubra (palm lily), Smilax australis (barbwire vine), Gahnia
aspera (sawsedge), Calamus muelleri (wait-a while vine) and scattered Lantana camara (lantana).
VC2 is considered representative of an Ecologically Important Area under the NC Planning Scheme
(refer purple shading VC01). Plate 12 depicts typical vegetation within VC2.
Plate 12 – VC2 – Open Eucalypt forest with rainforest understorey
4.3.3 Vegetation Community 3 – Open Eucalypt Forest with shrubby understorey
VC3 is present within several isolated units across the site and is characterised by an open forest
with shrubby understorey. The vegetation community exhibits an average canopy height of 20-25m.
The T1 canopy included Eucalyptus tereticornis (Queensland blue gum) and the T2 canopy included
Corymbia intermedia (pink bloodwood), Acacia dissparima (hickory wattle), and Commersonia
bartramia (brown kurrajong) with scattered Melaleuca quinquenervia (broad-leaved paperbark).
The mid-storey was characterised by rejuvenating canopy species, Acacia spp., Casuarina glauca
Glochidion sumatranum (cheese tree).
