4.3.5 Vegetation Community 5 – Acacia open forest
VC5 is present within single vegetation patch to the northeast of the proposed works location and is
characterised by an Acacia dominated open forest community. The vegetation community exhibits
an average canopy height of 20m.
The canopy exhibited a monoculture of Acacia disparrima (hickory wattle). The mid-storey was
characterised by rejuvenating wattle, Glochidion ferdinandi (cheese tree), Flindersia schottiana
(bumpy ash), Heptapleurum actinophyllum (umbrella tree), and Macaranga tanarius (macaranga).
The understorey was dominated by weed species Bidens Pilosa (cobblers pegs), Lantana camara
(lantana), and Ageratum houstonianum (blue billy goat weed), with Parsonsia straminea (monkey
rope) also present.
VC5 is considered representative of an Ecologically Important Area under the NC Planning Scheme
(refer red shading VC01). Plate 15 depicts typical vegetation within VC5.
