GENERAL PLANTING NOTES
1. PLANT QUALITY
All plant stock is to be in accordance with the scheduled nomenclature, well formed,
hardened off nursery stock. They are to be container grown in potting mixture with a
healthy root system and not pot bound. All pots shall be free of weeds and plant stock
is to be free from living insects, pests and disease. All plants are to be fully sun or
shade hardened-off to suit their on-site growing position for a minimum period of 6
weeks.
Ensure sufficient supply of each species shown on the drawings is available to achieve
the required layout and densities, and in the event of supply for replacement stock due
to failure, damage, unhealthy specimens or theft. Prior to plant stock arriving to site, a
nursery inspection including the Landscape Architect and Landscape Contractor is
required. The plant supplier is to ensure all stock (or good selection of stock) is present
during the inspection. It is also recommended that the Landscape Architect is on site to
inspect plant stock and plant set out prior to planting.
2. IMPLEMENTATION
Ensure all planting procedures result in healthy plant species within the prevailing soil,
climatic and management environment of this project. The following minimum is
expected:
- Excavate a hole for each plant twice the diameter of the rootball and 100mm deeper
than the root ball. Break up the base of the hole to a further depth of 100mm and
loosen the sides of the hole.
- Remove the plant from the container with minimum disturbance to the root ball, place
in final position, ensure it is central and plumb. Ensure the root ball is level with the
finished surface of the soil surrounding the hole or bed.
- Ensure correct placement of fertiliser and/or water retention additive as per
manufacturer's specification and requirements.
- Thoroughly water plants immediately after planting and at such times during the
contract period as required. All large stock will require a minimum of 10ltrs of water and
smaller stock 5itrs of water at the time of planting.
- Backfill with topsoil as specified. Lightly tamp and water thoroughly to eliminate any
air pockets. Ensure that topsoil is not placed over the top of the rootball.
Refer to Details 01, 02 & 03 CD-200 as reference.
Collect all empty plant containers daily during planting operations and remove from
site.
Do not vary the plant locations from those specified on the drawings unless otherwise
directed by the Superintendent. Should it be necessary to vary the locations and
spacing for any reason, immediately apply for directions by the Superintendent.
3. PLANT ESTABLISHMENT
The Establishment Period commences at the date of Practical Completion of Works.
During the Establishment Period maintain best horticultural practices, as well as
rectifying defects that become apparent in the works under normal use including (but
not limited to) the following items where required: watering, weeding, fertilising, pest
and disease control, mulching, pruning, rubbish removal and keeping the site neat and
tidy.
4, PLANT REPLACEMENT
Replace failed or damaged plants. This does not include vandalised or stolen plant
material - this will be replaced prior to practical completion.
5. SITE SOILS
All soils are to comply with AS 4419 Table 1 (both site topsoil and imported topsoil) and
receive appropriate amelioration if required. All topsoil must be free from noxious
weeds, rocks, roots, rubbish or any other deleterious material.
Place all topsoil in the areas directed and specified. Ensure that the topsoil is spread
and graded evenly to prevent any ponding. Prevent excess compaction by construction
plant. Stripped site topsoil needs to be stored in piles no greater than 2m high x 3m
wide. Topsoil storage piles for storage greater than 4 months should be seeded with a
suitable grass mix. Eradicate weeds using environmentally acceptable methods, such
as anon-residual glyphosate herbicide in any of its registered formulae, at the
manufacturer's recommended maximum rate. Noxious weeds need to be screened out
of the topsoil prior to placement.
Apply Nom. 300mm of topsoil to planted embankment areas.
6. MULCH
All mulch is to be free of deleterious or extraneous matter such as soil, weeds, rocks,
and twigs. The finish level of the mulch is to be level with the finish level of all adjacent
surfaces after settlement allowances of the topsoil and mulch. Ensure all mulch is
placed clear of plant stems to avoid rotting at ground level.
Any mulch to be salvaged from site cleared vegetation shall be tub-ground on site and
set to achieve a finer mulch with no pieces in excess of 100mm. Site mulch to be
separated into two piles. One is clean (above ground material) and the other is dirty
(material from below ground which may contain soil). The dirty mulch can be used for
soil and erosion purposes.
7. IRRIGATION
A irrigation system is to be installed and connected to one set of the rainwater tanks.
The system is to be aD & C based on guidance provided (location of irrigation
controller and conduits shown on landscape and civil drawings). The irrigation system
is to be a sub-surface dripper system.
GENERAL NOTES
1. FALLS
Grade all turf and planting areas evenly in the direction shown.
Ponding is not acceptable.
2. SOIL:
Refer GENERAL PLANTING NOTES - CD-001
3. WEED MANAGEMENT:
Refer WEED REMOVAL NOTES - CD-002
4. PAVEMENTS AND THRESHOLDS:
By Architect and Civil. Refer to Architect and Engineers drawings.
5. PLANTING AREAS:
Refer drawings for locations:
Cultivate existing sub-grade to 150mm depth, place topsoil to a
depth of 300mm, place 'Hoop Pine! mulch 100mm deep. Use any site
mulch on the embankments at the rear of areas of the site. Mound to
promote positive drainage as indicated on detail.
7. PLANTING LAYOUT
Refer to planting plan for typical coded plant layout. Refer to plant
schedule for plant species and codes.
8. TREE PLANTING NOTES:
- All trees shall have a minimum of 1.2 metre clear trunk.
- Tree stocks 45ltr and above to have 2 hardwood stakes as per
detail.
- All tree stock within the landscape works must comply with
NATSPEC guidelines, refer specification.
9. TIMBER EDGES:
Refer to Detail 04 CD-200
10. FENCES:
All fences and footings to be located within private property (where
applicable).
Where new fences are indicated on the drawings, existing fences are
to be demolished, unless otherwise noted.
Temporary fences to be constructed under drip line of existing trees
to enclose and protect the areas of the root zone. Refer plans for
approximate locations. Locations to be confirmed on site.
11. SERVICES:
The location of all underground or overhead services services shown
on these drawings are indicative only. They have been incorporated
at the design or Council approval stage for general information. The
Landscape Contractor shall be responsible for liaising with the Head
Contractor to determine the 'As constructed! location of all water,
sewer, stormwater, electrical, communication or other existing
services before commencing any excavation works.
12. SEDIMENT AND EROSION CONTROL:
Refer Civil Engineers drawings for all sediment and erosion control
measures.
13. ESTABLISHMENT:
All planting works to be inclusive of a twelve (12) week establishment
period.
