SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 8 JUNE 2021
Wayfinding signage was installed at key locations in order to assist people to access Main Beach
from entry points throughout Hastings Street.
The Hastings Street Association continued to provide on-the-ground feedback and assistance with
the traffic control which greatly assisted in determining hours of operation and effectiveness.
Data obtained:
Sample data collection of car parking in the Noosa Heads and Noosa Junction area as shownbelow
provides insight into the volumes of traffic entering the areas and the subsequent demand on the
traffic control objectives.
The data suggests there may be have been a reduced demand for car parking in 2021 which may
indicate higher usage of public transport or is a result of external factors at the time. However parking
demand peaked earlier and later.
All Parking Survey Areas (excludes Lions Car Park)
- Results indicate parking utilisation was lower
eam in 2021 but peaked earlier and later.

An independent traffic engineer was onsite on the 3 January 2021 to monitor the
effectiveness of the traffic management plan. The engineer's observations are that in
2018 without traffic control, the free buses had difficulty exiting the Noosa Heads bus
station due to slow moving traffic, queues, and drivers not giving way to buses. In 2019,
2020 and 2021 traffic control on Noosa Drive and Noosa Parade assisted buses to exit
the Noosa Heads bus station by controlling traffic allowing buses to continue on route
without delay.
2021 saw a reduction in bus travel time from Noosa Junction (near Arcadia Street) to
Noosa Heads as well as a reduction in queue length. Refer table 4 below
