EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Design Coordinator and Project Manager to the Infrastructure
& Services Committee Meeting dated 15 September 2015 and
A. Agree that the project proceed to tender stage based on the concept of constructing a
raised concrete shared zone as a replacement of failed footpath to William Street,
Noosaville; and
B. Approve additional funds of $159,770 from the unallocated renewal fund through the
budget review process.
REPORT
This report provides information regarding the proposed footpath reconstruction at William Street,
Noosaville including reconstructing the existing footpath to a proposal that creates a concrete
shared zone.
1. Background
The section of footpath at William Street, Noosaville has undergone subsidence to the point of
becoming a public safety concern requiring closure of the footpath to the public.
To avoid potential conflicts with the adjacent remains of a jetty structure, Council investigated a
design option that included a vinyl sheet pile retaining wall supporting a new 1.4m wide timber
deck with handrail, together with associated rock revetment works and road works (Attachment
1). Based on further advice from consulting engineers engaged on the project it is estimated that
the cost for this option would be in the order of $500,000.
The cost is significant due to the constructability issues associated with sheet piling and the
conflicts with existing Energex services.
Other issues associated with the construction works were also considered undesirable such as
vibrations from driving of sheet piles and lengthy road closure.
