INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 15 SEPTEMBER 2015
2. Alternative Solution
A shared zone was originally considered as an option and having investigated the sheet pile
proposal in more detail it is now considered that the raised concrete shared zone solution will
address the problem in a much shorter timeframe, and at greatly reduced cost and disruption as
shown in Attachment 2. This will in effect, formalise where pedestrians are currently walking
given the closure of the current unsafe footpath.
Council may consider further protective treatment of the foreshore at a time when an agreement
is reached with interested parties in the adjacent jetty, noting it is not anticipated that any works
would be required for a number of years.
Previous Council Consideration
Nil.
Finance & Risk
Risks associated with construction of a raised shared zone will be greatly less than the risks
involved in constructing the sheet pile wall and elevated deck.
Risks from conflicts with the adjacent waterway structures are also negated by moving the
construction zone back from the shore.
Reduced times for road closure will result in less conflict with local residents and other traffic.
Finance
Cost to date (geotechnical investigation, road design, legal) $100,648
Preliminary estimate for design and construction of raised shared zone $200,000
Total Cost $300,648
Budget allocation $140,878
Additional funds required $159,770
