Condition Maintenance
What to look for Performance Indicator (PI)^ Additional Work Needed
Rating* undertaken**
During dry conditions, the water level is not
Water levels more than 0.3m below the normal operating
level
Minimum 80% vegetation cover on batters and
in water up to 300mm deep (higher if the
vegetation provides a public‐safety exclusion
Vegetation role)
Average plant height > 500mm
Plants are healthy and free from significant
disease.
No declared weeds present (or declared weeds
Weeds2 are controlled)
(emergent, floating or submerged)
Maximum 10% cover of weeds
Maximum 10% cover of algal mats on two

consecutive inspections
Mosquitoes 1 larvae per 2 ladle dips (300mL ladle)
Fertiliser3 No presence of fertiliser on banks of WQCP
Water is clear, that is turbidity is such that the
floor of the pond can be seen at 0.75m depth
No visible algal blooms
Cyanobacterial Blooms
Macrophyte coverage to be above 20% of the
WQCP water surface.
Plants are healthy and are free from significant
disease
*1 – PI met; 2 – PI met after maintenance activity; 3 – Additional maintenance needed; 4 – Rectification may be needed; NI – not inspected; NA – not applicable
**Quantify where possible e.g. amount of sediment or litter removed
1
Monitor the rate of accumulation by checking sediment levels at least once per year. This may involve establishing one or more reference points within different zones of the WQCP. Where sediment depths are greater than
150mm, a bathymetric survey of the WQCP may be required to determine the full extent of accumulation
2
Appendix B of WBD’s Maintaining Vegetated Stormwater Assets (2012) provides details of common weed species. Both declared and environmental/nuisance weeds are incorporated into this list
3
Application of fertiliser in upstream catchment to be scheduled and measured to maximise nutrient uptake by plants and avoid runoff to WQCP.
