Condition Maintenance
What to look for Performance Indicator (PI)^ Additional Work Needed
Rating* undertaken**
If above indicators for cyanobacterial blooms
reveals non‐performance, water quality testing
is required. Performance indicator is
≤500cells/mL of Microcystis aeruginosa or
biovolume equivalent ≤0.04mm3/mL combined
total of cyanobacteria.
OUTLET (RISER OVERFLOW WEIR, PIPE OR OUTFALL)
Outlet is structurally sound and there Is no
Erosion
evidence of erosion or subsidence/settlement
Damaged or removed structures No damage that poses a risk to public safety or
(e.g. pit lids or grates) structural integrity
Sediment, litter or debris No blockage
No downstream impediments to the release of
water, no erosion or damage to the outfall
Downstream Outfall
structure and no evidence of malfunction (e.g.
excessive sediment accumulated)
*1 – PI met; 2 – PI met after maintenance activity; 3 – Additional maintenance needed; 4 – Rectification may be needed; NI – not inspected; NA – not applicable
**Quantify where possible e.g. amount of sediment or litter removed
1
Monitor the rate of accumulation by checking sediment levels at least once per year. This may involve establishing one or more reference points within different zones of the WQCP. Where sediment depths are greater than
150mm, a bathymetric survey of the WQCP may be required to determine the full extent of accumulation
2
Appendix B of WBD’s Maintaining Vegetated Stormwater Assets (2012) provides details of common weed species. Both declared and environmental/nuisance weeds are incorporated into this list
3
Application of fertiliser in upstream catchment to be scheduled and measured to maximise nutrient uptake by plants and avoid runoff to WQCP.
^Performance indicators and monitoring triggers outlined in this document are subject to latest specifications provided in peer reviewed journal publications and health regulations. Changes are to be made where appropriate.
