  Administrative Coordination

  The Communication Officer shall be responsible for:-
  e   The coordination of contact with the media;
  e   The distribution of authorised Media releases;
  e   Managing and filtering media enquiries;
  e   Coordinating media interviews;
  e   Preparing media kits and background material:
  e   Liaison with appropriate staff to coordinate responses to media issues; and
  e   Alerting senior management to sensitive or controversial media issues relevant to the
      organisation.

  Protocols

  e   Journalists shall be treated respectfully and courteously by Councillors and staff at all times;
  e   Media responses should always be ‘on the record’;
  e   Responses shall be truthful and accurate, and avoid speculation, guesswork or personal
      opinion;
  e   Responses must not include disparaging comments about other organisations or individuals;
  e   Personal or contact details of staff, Councillors or other individuals must not be provided to the
      media without prior consent;
  e   The release of any information shall remain consistent with the Information Privacy Act 2009
      and the provisions of the Queensland Local Government Act 2009, in particular, in relation to
      Section 171 relating to the use of information by Councillors; and
  e   Staff shall advise the Communication Officer or the Mayor of likely events, announcements or
      issues that may attract media interest, and ensure information provided is accurate.
