Allowing for an additional separation distance of 8m to 16m, from the loading area to the facade of the
nearest proposed units a 6dB reduction is expected to the measured noise levels. Therefore the predicted
noise levels range between 61dBA and 72dBA LA1,1hour at the nearest facade in the proposed unit building.
The proposed internal noise criteria adopted for the night-time period for the assessment is the Acoustic
Quality Objective of 40dBA LA1,1hour.
Noise intrusion calculations have been undertaken for the units nearest the loading dock area and are
presented in Attachment A. The calculated noise levels have been based on the measured L1 spectrum
associated with 6am to 7am period obtained on Monday 13/03/2017. All other days had lower noise levels
and therefore would also result in lower internal noise levels.
Based on achieving the internal noise goal of 40dBA L1,1hour, the recommended facade upgrade
requirements are as follows:
   • Units 06-10:
      ○ Glazing: The external facade of the unit is fully glazed, the facade is required to be upgraded with
an Rw43 glazing system. The calculations indicate that a twin slider glazing system (such as a
6.38mm laminate, 100mm air gap and 5mm toughened) is likely required.
     ○ Infill wall: Required to be upgraded to be Rw50. The calculations indicate that the following wall
system is suitable(9mm fibre cement (FC), 92mm steel stud with 75mm thick insulation(11kg/m3)
        and 1x13mm sound-rated plasterboard).
   • Units 14-16:
     ○ Glazing: The glazing is required to be upgraded with an Rw43 glazing system. The calculations
indicate that a twin slider glazing system (such as a 6.38mm laminate, 100mm air gap and 5mm
        toughened) is likely required.
     ○ Infill wall: Required to be upgraded to be Rw52. The calculations indicate that the following wall
system is suitable(9mm thick FC, 92mm steel stud with 75mm thick insulation(11kg/m3) and
        1x13mm sound-rated plasterboard).
   • Units 22-26:
     ○ Glazing: The external facade of the unit is fully glazed, the facade is required to be upgraded with
an Rw43 glazing system. The calculations indicate that a twin slider glazing system (such as a
6.38mm laminate, 100mm air gap and 5mm toughened) is likely required.
     ○ Infill wall: Required to be upgraded to be Rw50. The calculations indicate that the following wall
system is suitable(9mm FC, 92mm steel stud with 75mm thick insulation(11kg/m3) and 1x13mm
        sound-rated plasterboard).
     ○ Roof/Ceiling: Sheet metal roof with internal 13mm sound-rated plasterboard sheeting for the
ceiling and 60mm thick Anticon glasswool insulation in the cavity.
   • Units 30-32:
     ○ Glazing: The glazing is required to be upgraded with an Rw43 glazing system. The calculations
indicate that a twin slider glazing system (such as a 6.38mm laminate, 100mm air gap and 5mm
        toughened) is likely required.
It is recommended that calculations are undertaken at a later stage of the project to confirm the suitability
of the selected glazing system. As the windows can be closed to mitigate the potential noise intrusion,
ventilation requirements may need to be considered.
