Ecological Assessment Report v1 NCES REF: J001050 Lot 3 on RP131369 – 96 Black Mountain Range Road, Black Mountain 5.1.2 Mitigation Measures Impacts to native vegetation have been mitigated by locating the proposed building envelopes with existing modified areas onsite (VC2) external of the intact bushland areas onsite (VC1). Furthermore, a 4.754ha Vegetation Protection Covenant is proposed to protect 99.7% of the identified Ecologically Important Areas onsite (VC2) within Lot 2 (refer VC02 green hatching). A Covenant Area Management Plan has been prepared (refer Appendix 2) to restore the floristic integrity of the proposed Vegetation Protection Covenant within Lot 2, consisting of weed control works and revegetation where necessary. 5.2 Fauna 5.2.1 Impacts The impacts to fauna species anticipated as a result of the development are anticipated to primarily relate to direct habitat loss during clearing of semi-mature trees contained within VC2 located within the proposed building envelopes and potential future exempt clearing opportunities within Lot 1. Additional impacts to fauna may include: o Reduced nocturnal habitat/foraging suitability on the edge of adjacent bushland (VC1) via introduction of artificial lighting of external buildings environs; o Increased predation rates via introduction of domestic pets to the site; and o Risk of injury or death during vegetation clearing. 5.2.2 Mitigation Measures The impact to fauna is proposed to be mitigated/minimised by: • The presence of a suitably qualified and experienced fauna spotter/catcher on-site during vegetation clearing; • A 4.754ha Vegetation Protection Covenant proposed within Lot 2 will protect 99.7% of intact bushland onsite; • A Covenant Area Management Plan has been prepared (refer Appendix 2) to restore the floristic integrity of the proposed Vegetation Protection Covenant area through weed control works and revegetation (where necessary); and • Lighting hoods are recommended to be installed on all outside lighting fronting the VC1 areas onsite to restrict direct illuminance into the bushland areas. 5.3 Waterways and Wetlands 5.3.1 Impacts The Noosa Council Planning Scheme 2020 Biodiversity, Waterways, and Wetlands mapping depicts two waterways within the site (refer Plate 4). The proposed boundary does not traverse either waterway at any location. Additionally, all of the proposed building envelopes have been deliberately positioned a minimum of 20m from the centreline of the mapped waterway to avoid potential future exempt clearing opportunities impacting the riparian vegetation. 5.3.2 Mitigation Measures The impact to the waterways is proposed to be mitigated/minimised by: • The entire mapped extent of the onsite waterways will be contained within the Lot 2 Vegetation Protection Covenant Area of which will be subjected to a Covenant Area Management Plan inclusive of weed controls works and revegetation (where necessary); and • Appropriate erosion and sediment control works are recommended to mitigate any significant impacts to the onsite waterways. © 2022 18
