Target start date 4 March 2019 ‘Target finish date 26 March 2019
Project Description — approximately 250 words to describe what the project is about. This will be used as the introduction
on Your Say Noosa
The purpose of the project is to prepare an overarching Environment Strategy that will provide principles and strategic
direction for environment-related projects. It will help prioritise key environmental initiatives and provide measurable
targets to assess and monitor change in the environment over time. It will play an important role in providing a
coordinated approach and a shared understanding within the community and Council of environment management issues
and actions needed for Noosa Shire.
Design - Project background — Why is the project necessary, what are contributing factors leading to the decision to
engage?
The project is a key focus area under the Corporate Plan. The strategy will be a whole of Council strategy document that
will have an important community focus.
Design - Understand context & scope project : Consider political, economic, social, technological, legal, environmental
and historical factors plus what is in and what is out of scope for the project (Fig 1)
The Environment Strategy will be one of the cornerstone strategies (along with the Social Strategy and Local Economic
Plan) that make up council’s corporate policy framework under the corporate plan. There are numerous environmental plans
and policies that guide decision making and project delivery but no overarching prioritisation framework for the environment
that helps to coordinate these. The Environment Strategy will have an important role in setting environmental targets and key
strategies under four themes:
e Biodiversity
e Waterways, wetlands and coasts
e Sustainable Living
e Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience
The Environment Strategy will provide some contextual information on environmental values and threats, management
issues and trends, existing initiatives and strategic outcomes for the next 10 years.
An implementation plan will identify key implementation actions for delivery in the first couple of years and a framework for
monitoring and evaluation of the success of the strategy. Community feedback will provide input into key implementation
actions, and these will be included in the final version for Council endorsement.
Design - Project Aims — bullet points
