Permits
Government permits to allow TNC to undertake the restoration works and establish the shellfish restoration sites long term
in the Noosa River took much longer to secure than was originally, and optimistically, forecast in the Agreement. Permitting
processes are not yet tailored to marine restoration, so extensive technical studies had to be undertaken, restoration
processes explained in minute detail and the complex Project Restoration Plan discussed and considerable length with
multiple government staff.
Eventually though, the permits were secured, and thanks is extended to those agency staff who went on this journey with
TNC to make it happen. This was the first time in Queensland that the scientifically accredited, best practice shellfish
restoration guidelines and practices set by the International Society for Ecological Restoration had been permitted in
Queensland.
TNC, NC and project sponsors can therefore be proud of this massive achievement. The permits secured are listed below. A
clarification for each permit is also provided. The permits are also annexed to this report.
