The increase in attendances was predominantly due to several major event bookings throughout
the year, including:
Noosa Long Weekend Festival (NLWF) performances by Opera Australia and the NLWF
Orchestra.
Atalanta Jamboree badminton championships.
The 2015 Contender of the Codes boxing event.
The Rotary Noosa Daybreak Bookfest fundraiser.
3. STAFFING
NLC has one full-time member of staff (NLC Coordinator) and approximately 15 casual staff. A
focus throughout the year has been the upskilling of casual staff across multiple roles. This has
led to a more flexible team and has created some efficiencies by allowing staff to cover two areas
of responsibility during a single shift.
The NLC Coordinator, NAC Coordinator and the Community Facilities Manager visited
Melbourne in May to inspect nine leisure and aquatic facilities. Melbourne is generally considered
to be the nation’s leading location for state-of-the-art leisure facilities and the trip proved to be
very valuable. Staff made some great connections with other industry professionals and took
away a number of facility and programming ideas that will be further explored over time.
4. SYSTEMS, PROCESSES AND OTHER MATTERS
As one of Council’s nominated emergency evacuation centres, NLC recently upgraded the
switchboard located in Wallace Park to enable generator compatibility at the site. This will
allow the evacuation centre to continue to function without mains power in the event of a
power outage.
Indoor recycling bins were installed throughout the centre.
The reception area refurbishment was completed in June as part of the annual capital
works program. Both staff and patrons alike have been delighted by the changes, which
have proven to be effective in improving customer service. The photos below show the
improvements to the centre. Note that signage is still to be upgraded in both café and
reception areas in line with the refurbishment. This will take place at the start of the new
financial year.
