                                  Budget Actuals

While total revenue finished the year extremely close to budget, falling just $648 short of the
budget target, there were some variances across the various revenue streams.
The café and retail operations performed strongly with revenue coming in $19,620 ahead of
budget, thanks in large part to high attendances at major events (covered in more detail later in
the report). What was particularly pleasing was that café and retail operations expenditure was
just $2,847 over budget, leading to a net bettering of budget of $16,773.
Group fitness revenue also performed strongly with attendances up almost 20% on last year.
This saw revenue exceed budget by $19,378 and with expenditure also down by $8,016 thanks
to tight financial management, the program exceeded net budget by $27,385.
Venue hire missed budget by $19,710, due mainly to a cancellation of a series of special event
bookings, and also due to a significant decrease in weekend court hire by Noosa District
Basketball Association (NDBA). This decrease came as a result of a merge between clubs on the
Sunshine Coast which subsequently affected where games were played.
Large variances to budget were seen in the kids’ playroom activity and came as a result of
converting the area across from the former Jump Bunch program. While revenue was down
against budget by $14,994, this was more than offset by the expenditure savings of $28,725,
comprising mainly of labour savings as the playroom is not staffed. Overall the activity bettered
budget by $14,031 and offered a new and valued service to parents with young children.
A maintenance underspend of $9,364 partially offset a series of small overspends in other
materials and services accountants. Labour savings totalled $33,596 (mainly as a result of the
Jump Bunch program changes outlined above, with total expenditure finishing the year $22,364
under budget.

2. CUSTOMERS
NLC recorded 89,840 attendances for the year, up 3.76% on the previous year’s total of 86,582.
This equates to an operational cost per visit (exclusive of depreciation and internal charges) of
$2.81 per person, up very marginally from $2.77 in 2014/15. For further context, the centre’s
year-on-year revenue increased by $9,201 (2.02% up), while expenditure rose by $30,857
(3.15% up).
