Committee meeting dated Tuesday 9 August 2016, providing an update on the activities of The J
and BCC for the 2015/16 financial year.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is to update Council on The J and BCC’s activities for the year ending
30 June 2016.
The J continues to operate as a versatile, multi-use community venue. It hosts a wide range of
activities, performances and live entertainment. It is also home to current tenants the University
of the Sunshine Coast (and TAFE) and Noosa Community Radio.
The J is the venue of choice for a number of community groups including Noosa Chorale, Noosa
Heads Jazz Club, Noosa Music Society, Independent Retirees Association, Hillsong Church, and
numerous school and commercial dance/theatre groups who conduct a range of youth activities,
performances, awards and presentation ceremonies.
The J is a unique facility that includes a 330 seat theatre. It also offers a combination of flexible
meeting spaces; conference rooms and facilities for hire which are complemented by covered
outdoor areas and stylish open foyers.
The Bicentennial Community Centre (BCC) includes the Main Hall, Annexe and Demountable
buildings. The BCC is used by individual community members and organisations for a variety of
community, sporting and cultural activities including educational classes, meetings, rehearsals,
workshops, presentations and social events. The BCC Main Hall is the permanent home of the
Noosa Gymnastics Club. The adjacent demountable building hosts a permanent user, the Little
Seeds Theatre Group, and negotiations are underway for Noosa Montessori School to undertake
a long-term lease in the building.
