The 360L bin size has proven popular and numbers continue to grow, particularly for the 360L
green garden bins.
It has been noted that competing waste collection contractors have continued to win a growing
number of bulk bin customers. Businesses we have spoken to claim the main reason is that they
can be directly billed monthly and have more control over waste costs. Loss of these services
causes a revenue drop to Council that must be offset by other customers.
The push continues to remove as much cardboard as possible from co-mingle bins into dedicated
cardboard bins. Cleanaway have been active in monitoring recycling bins for possible conversation
to cardboard services.
New commercial 1100L green garden bins have not proven popular and there are still large
quantities of green garden waste being disposed to landfill through Cleanaway on call bins. One
spin off from the 1100L green garden bin awareness program has been an increase in 240L and
360L green garden bins at commercial properties. Unfortunately we do not differentiate these
numbers above, but they would account for the bulk of the growth in service numbers.
The North Shore Transfer Station was closed early in the financial year due to all residents on
North Shore having access to a kerbside bin service. There is a small transfer station created in
the old Council quarry for the restricted use by Teewah residents.
