PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 APRIL 2017
Planning Scheme does not support the establishment of any additional private commercial
jetties on the Noosa River.;
M. Council is currently in the process of updating the Noosa River Plan (2004). Under the
current Noosa River Plan, there needs to be investigation into a statutory means of managing
commercial boating fleet sizes for commercial boating operations to minimise the cumulative
impacts of boat wash and foreshore disturbance;
N. We would request that the State take into account the desired environments outcomes
regarding jetties, pontoons & wharves (public and private) as set out in the Noosa River Plan
when assessing the proposal by Eco Camp Pty Ltd and a link to that plan is provided with
this submission.
O. Council supports the Discovery Group’s intent in reducing the environment impacts of their
current operations on the Noosa River system by utilising vessels with low draw, low wash
and low fuel burn. However, we note that there appear to be no legal mechanisms available
that mandate commercial operators to use low draw, low wash, low fuel burn boats, or control
the number of boats used; and
P. Council considers any downgrade or changes to declared Fish Habitat Areas in the Noosa
River system should be undertaken at a strategic level and not in response to individual
commercial requests.
