Ecological Assessment Report for Proposed Hinterland Adventure Playground – Noosa Shire Council
August 2109 by Noosa & District Landcare

2. Methodology
2.1 Desktop survey
Desk top assessment was conducted prior to field survey which included investigation of the
following datasets:

     Regional Ecosystems and Remnant Vegetation – biodiversity status (DSITI 2017a)
        Essential Habitat Mapping (DNRM 2017);
        Protected Plants Flora Survey Trigger Map (DEHP 2017b);
        Referable Wetlands Mapping (DEHP 2017c);
        Wildlife Online fauna and flora records (DSITI 2017c);
        Ordered Stream Mapping (DNRM 2010);
The searches were conducted using online spatial layers (through Queensland Globe predominantly)
through searches using lot/plan details as a reference or the coordinates -26.4139, 152.9103 which
correspond to the approximate centre point of the Survey Area with a 10 km buffer. These datasets
provided a baseline for subsequent field assessment.

2.2 Field Survey
2.2.1 Plant Survey conducted by Phil Moran

A complete walk-through of the entire site was conducted to establish a plant species list with a note
of natural regeneration and recruitment, compared to planted tube stock from the revegetation of
the site.

A particular note of EPBC & NCA listed plant species was taken, from least concerned through to
endangered status, with GPS point of identified plants listed vulnerable and above recorded.

A detailed list of all plant species present was also generated including weed species and is
contained in Appendix B.

2.2.2 Vertebrate Survey conducted by Raphael O’Flynn accompanied by SQW trainee.

Vertebrate surveys were conducted for both diurnal and nocturnal species.

Diurnal survey

Bird:
        2 x 100m transect survey sites completed by 2 observers.
     Walk through the transect site, stopping every 25m for 10 minute time frame to observe –
         fly overs were included in the count, as were calls and sightings.

                                                                                                    11
