3.2 Local Area
The subject land is located on the Noosa River adjacent to the open space areas of Russell Park and Russell
Street Park (Plates 1-3), on the foreshore of Munna Beach near the boat ramp (Plate 8). The local area
includes a mix of shady parkland reserves and sandy beaches, surrounded by a mix of urban development.
The built form in the local area varies depending on the age and location of development; between 6 or 7
storeys along the foreshore (Plate 7) and 3 storey unit development and holiday rentals along Russell Street
(Plate 9), to the single storey cabins and camping grounds of the Noosa Holiday Park. Russell Street is typical
of the local area character with a mix of unit development and apartments, in a quiet neighbourhood setting
(Figure 3-4). The River is a popular transport corridor for the Noosa ferry and water taxis, and is busy with
recreational boaters, jet skiers and anglers. Although the boatshed is visible from the River and foreshore
areas, it is not significantly out of character with the local area, although the current use of pale metal sheeting
draws attention to it.
