1.4 The Boatshed
1.4.1 Existing part-built boatshed
The Department of Housing and Public Works (DHPW) constructed the current boatshed to structural
completion in late 2017. The boatshed is approximately 183sqm in area, with an upper roof level of between
RL 6.273 and RL 6.280m, which was designed with a pitched roof to accommodate taller fixed-canopy boats
in the central part of the shed. The height of the roof ridge was confirmed by survey in 2019 at RL 7.521m
(Figure 1-5). The new shed is located on an existing concrete pad of an older shed (expanded c.2000), which
was demolished in June 2017, along with a number of mature trees on the subject land. The new shed is taller
and larger in footprint than its precedent, as discussed in Section 1.4.2 below. The shed is considerably bigger
than the original shed (c. 1974 with additions in the 1980s) although it retains the same design features, such
as a pitched roof, plain side walls and double garage doors.
