Substation Location Options
Ashley,
Following our initial consolation with Energex, it was identified that a new transformer was required to supply
the site. Two options for the type and location of this transformer were identified.
• Option 1 - Pole Mounted transformer on a new service pole located on Webb road
• Option 2 - Kiosk transformer adjacent to the public amenities on Webb road.
Energex has indicated that the preferred supply option is Option 1.
Site Plan and HV availability
An investigation of the dial before you dig information and information available from site indicated that HV
was available only on the Webb road frontage. There is minimal in ground infrastructure, the majority of the LV
and HV cabling is reticulated overhead.
A review of the Dial before you dig indicates no significant infrastructure in the vicinity, with only limited
underground LV infrastructure on Duke St.

A review of site photos and street view indicates that the existing overhead high voltage follows the following
approximate alignment an existing pole mount transformer is located adjacent to the existing amenities.

Site Details
Following a review of the available connection points for high voltage, it was determined that a new service
connection along Webb St was the most practical.
Below is a street view photo of the proposed transformer location.
A review of the available information of the site has indicated the following:
• Access to the site is reasonable for construction equipment
• Any inground works, including footings, conduits etc, will impact the existing trees
• The existing overhead network will need to be reviewed and adjusted to suit the proposed works.
• The site is generally sloping from Webb St toward the park and the surf club.

Option 1
Option 1 is a pole mounted transformer mounted on a new service pole. The consumer mains for the surf club
would run from the transformer to a property pole then transition to underground and run to the surf club.
Advantages Disadvantages
Minimal inground works Visual impact for properties on Webb and Crank
street
Potentially faster build/lead times Size of the pole mount transformer is limited, thus
restricting future spare capacity for the surf club
Capital contribution for service pole less than The existing street lighting will be affected by the
padmount site changes to the power poles. Evans Built responsible
for modifications to street lighting subject to council
approval.

Option 2
Option 2 is a ground mounted padmount substation. A typical padmount substation site is 5m Deep x 4.8m
wide. Noting that the site is sloping an engineered retaining wall will be required.
Advantages Disadvantages
Lower visual impact for properties on Webb and In ground works more extensive, including impact on
Crank street adjoining trees
Higher electrical spare capacity for the surf club Contractor/client responsible for the civil works
associated with the padmount

Required Works
From the point of supply the builder is required to install underground conduits to the surf club. These conduits
are to be coordinated with the existing services, trees etc and are to be protected by a service and access
easement.
