GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 16 JULY 2018
The transformation of our Workplace Health and Safety performance has been significant.
We recently undertook an external audit of our WH&S Systems and achieved a score of 74%
(up from 19% and 26% three to four years ago). We have transitioned from one of the worst
performing local governments of our size to one of the best performing local governments of
our size. We also held a major WH&S event in 2017 with the Qld WH&S Ambassador Shane
Webcke speaking to staff about the importance of WH&S.
We transitioned our ICT systems to the latest version which provided enhanced systems
capability. We also undertook an external audit of our ICT security systems and received a
detailed report on cyber-security. We have also continued to roll out our ICT Strategy to
enhance our system capabilities with the start of our property and rating system transition.
We undertook significant training and development for our middle managers with programs
focused on team leaders and supervisors. However, we still have more to do to successfully
implement an annual staff development program.
2 OTHER ISSUES
There are some other activities which are worth highlighting:
We have continued to build good working relationships with our northern neighbours, Gympie
Regional Council. This has included regular meetings at a Mayoral and executive level,
assisting each other with relevant documentation and policies, support for interview panels,
potential joint contracting etc. It is proposed to continue this co-operation with mutual
assistance for each other’s Audit & Risk Committees.
We continue to attract significant interest from other Councils as to how we are successfully
delivering good outcomes to our community. We have hosted Councils from interstate looking
at our ICT solutions, hosted local government CEOs from remote parts of Queensland and
hosted other professionals looking at our work practices.

enquiries, managing development applications etc.
