Table 3: Revegetation Methods
Task Description
Tube stock ▪ Source tube stocks from nurseries within a 200 kilometre radius of the Rehabilitation Area.
Provenance ▪ Ensure tube stocks of allied Myrtaceae species (i.e. Eucalyptus, Corymbia, Melaleuca, Lophostemon, Angophora and Syzygium sp)
are free from Myrtle Rust and fungal pathogens.
Site Preparation Regrowth areas
▪ Carefully select planting sites to avoid disturbing existing native plants and their root systems.
▪ Prepare planting site by digging 200mm deep holes into moist soil.
Cleared area east of the driveway
▪ Spot spray 1m diameter circles around planting sites with Glyphosate or hand weed to reduce competition from grasses and other
non-native species.
Planting ▪ Pour approximately 1 litre of water into the hole and allow it to soak in.
▪ Place the plant in the hole and backfill carefully.
▪ Create a dish-shaped depression around the stem of the plant to aid in moisture retention.
▪ Pour another litre of water on top of the depression.
▪ Stake each plant with a bamboo stake or tree guard if there is evidence of macropod browsing.
▪ Maintain a 1 metre weed-free diameter around each plant until they reach 1 metre in height.
▪ Mulch from the chipped weed trees may be used to aid establishment and restrict weed growth if it is seed-free.
▪ Time planting to occur during or immediately after rain to maximise survival rates.
Planting Density Cleared area east of the driveway – Dense filter strip planting (130m2)
▪ 0.5-1.0m spacings to stabilise the batter and filter any sediment/nutrient runoff.
▪ Approximately 100 plants required.
Regrowth areas
- Infill planting of non-native dominated regrowth areas (890m2)
▪ 1-2m spacings between tree and shrub species.
▪ 0.5-1.0m spacings between Lomandra, sedge and groundcover species along edge of channel.
▪ Approximately 200 plants required.
- Infill planting of native dominated regrowth areas (1,380m2)
▪ Increase plant diversity in wattle-dominated areas with a diversity of wet sclerophyll and rainforest species.
▪ Approximately 200 plants required
Watering ▪ If conditions are dry, water in after planting. Water regularly for 2 weeks, then water weekly for 6 weeks.
