ACOUSTICS & AIR QUALITY 7.4 Calculations The rail noise levels have been predicted for all allotments and rooms of the proposed aged care facility. The single event Lmax noise levels have been predicted under two separate development conditions: i. Without acoustic barriers ii. With the acoustic barriers nominated in Figure 6.1. The predicted Lmax noise levels with no acoustic barrier for the allotments are presented in Table C.1 in Appendix C, and for the rooms in the aged care facility in Table C.2 in Appendix C. (Refer to Figure 3.2 for numbering of rooms). From Table C.1 it can be seen that the highest predicted noise level is 81 dBA Lmax on lots 17, 18, 19, 20, 33, 34, 35, 48, 49 and 50. From Table C.2 it can be seen that the highest predicted noise level in the aged care facility is 81 dBA Lmax in rooms 13 to 20 (including the nurse station and lounge) in D Wing, and rooms 13 to 20 (including the nurse station) in E Wing. All other allotments and rooms have lower levels of noise exposure. Based on these predicted noise levels, the MP4.4 Noise Categories in Table C.1 and Table C.2 extend up to Noise Category 3 for rail noise. The predicted Lmax noise levels comply with the noise limits of 87 dBA (1m from the facade) and 84 dBA (free-field) from Section 4.2.3 and Section 4.1, and therefore no acoustic barriers are required. However, an acoustic barrier has been recommended to mitigate road traffic noise as presented in Figure 6.1. Therefore predicted single event maximum noise levels have also been predicted with the inclusion of this barrier. The predicted Lmax noise levels with the inclusion of the proposed acoustic barrier (shown in Figure 6.1) for the allotments are presented in Table D.1 in Appendix D, and for the rooms in the aged care facility in Table D.2 in Appendix D. (Refer to Figure 3.2 for numbering of rooms). From Table D.1 it can be seen that the highest predicted noise level is 80 dBA Lmax on lots 98 and 111. From Table D.2 it can be seen that the highest predicted noise level in the aged care facility is 81 dBA Lmax in room 13 in D Wing. All other allotments and rooms have lower levels of noise exposure. Based on these predicted noise levels, the MP4.4 Noise Categories in Table D.1 and Table D.2 extend up to Noise Category 3 for rail noise. A review of building construction requirements associated with the predicted MP4.4 noise categories is included in Section 8. 7617R01V02.docx Page 25
