PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 28 JANUARY 2014

Surrounding Land Uses
Pinaroo Rotary Park adjoins the site to the east. The park is primarily a conservation park and
nature refuge but does include some low-key recreational facilities and trails.
A mix of small-to-medium retail, commercial and medical tenancies within Noosa Junction’s
business centre zone generally abuts the north, south and east of the development area.
Adjacent uses also include a service station, community centre (The J) and Noosa Heads post
office to the north, an IGA supermarket and Irish bar within Noosa Junction Shopping centre to
the east and a Coles supermarket within Noosa Fair shopping centre within the balance portion
of Lot 54 RP139776 (part of the subject site).
Further afield in all directions development is predominantly characterised by detached housing.
Development History
The recent history of the development on the site’s component lots is as follows:
Noosa Fair Site
Noosa Fair Shopping Centre opened in 1982 with Coles supermarket the original anchor tenant.
Numerous town planning approvals have been issued since that time, with the most recent and
relevant being 132002.220113.3 (22625DA) for extensions to the centre issued in 2008.
An application for a 590m2 extension to the Coles supermarket via MCU13/0086 was approved in
November 2013, though these works are yet to commence.
Noosa Heads Bowls Club Site
The Noosa Heads Bowls club opened in 1970 and pre-dates town planning approvals. The
existing clubhouse, licensed club premises and third bowling green was approved via town
planning consent TPC2765 in 1994 and opened in 1995.
The Club sold to Coles in late 2011 but secured agreement to continue operating from the site for
a further 3 years. In 2012 the club decided to reduce the extent of its operations and closed the
licensed club.
