PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 12 FEBRUARY 2019

2. Scope 2 - Indirect emissions

Purchased electricity
Whilst the emissions from the purchase of electricity from the grid are a small percentage of
Council’s total carbon footprint, the business case for the implementation of energy efficiency and
on-site renewable energy generation is positive and reduces the impact of future increased
electricity prices.

Council controlled large sites
Council has been working to reduce emissions from electricity purchased from the electricity grid.

Figure 2 shows Council’s total electricity consumption of the Council owned large sites for each
financial year to enable comparison for the same month (and season) across the years.

Figure 2: Noosa Council Large sites' electricity consumption

Overall there was a 2.5% reduction in Council’s electricity consumption for its large sites in the
2017/18 carbon footprint. This reduction is small largely due to the installation of the large solar
systems being completed towards the latter part of the 2017/18 financial year. Further reductions
are anticipated.

The consumption graphs for each individual site are provided in Attachment 1. The following
outlines the initiatives and the resultant savings at individual sites to December 2018.

The J
A 50 KW solar PV was installed in June 2018. In the first 6 months of operation:
 electricity consumption from the grid has been reduced by 45%;
 emissions from electricity have reduced by 45%; and
 electricity costs reduced by 34%.
